Gig review: Limp Bizkit brings chaos and nostalgia to Glasgow
Americas very own Limp Bizkit graced the stage of the OVO Hydro earlier this month, delivering a gig to remember - though they brought some questionable acts with them.
Jon Carnage, the host of the evening, succeeded in getting the crowd hyped—just maybe not the way he had hoped. And one thing's for sure: you don’t want to anger a crowd of 14,000 Scots who just want to kick someone's ass to Nookie. By his third or fourth appearance, he was booed off stage by some less-than-PC chants.
After a short setlist from Karen Dio, N8NOFACE, and Ecca Vandal, it was Californian rapper Bones who really got the crowd going. With a sound much like his friends Suicide Boys, he energized the pit and finally got it moving.
By 9:30, everyone in the pit was screaming for water and getting quite antsy, but none of that mattered when the curtain pulled back—“LIMP BIZKIT” plastered against the backdrop, thousands of screaming fans ready to throw hands in a mosh pit, and a man with sunglasses and a white cap popped out. But no, it wasn’t Fred Durst—it was RiffRaff. That guy from Vine. And I promise you, you’ll never see as many confused faces at a concert as there were that night. Luckily for the crowd, however, he was quickly joined by a bearded man in a tracksuit and a bucket hat. Yes, this time it was, in fact, Fred Durst.
The concert was quickly kicked off by none other than a good ol’ classic—Break Stuff. A sea of red hats began jumping around in the middle of the crowd, and that’s when you knew the show had truly begun. To put it lightly, it was an electric night—Wes Borland ran around the stage in a rainbow skeleton mask and pink mohawk, while Durst kept the crowd fired up with every song. They even brought two young fans on stage to sing Livin’ It Up, and they did not disappoint, rocking out with Fred through every beat.
Behind Blue Eyes gave everyone a few minutes to recover and sway to the music, but of course, this is a Limp Bizkit gig—so it didn’t last long.
After an electric hour and a half, they wrapped up the night the same way it started—with a huge mosh pit to Break Stuff. However, by that point, I was standing at the back with a nice large pint of water, like many other fans who had a bit too much fun in the pits.
